Welcome

This advanced Industrial Design studio aims to cultivate designers for social entrepreneurship by examining the role of design in this field, identifying key methodologies and models of social entrepreneurship, and investigating the power of product, system and service design to create positive social and environmental change. This semester, as social entrepreneurial designers, students will use design and design thinking to address social and environmental issues prevalent in Providence and our surrounding communities. In partnership with Social Venture Partners Rhode Island (SVPRI), students will have the opportunity to work with a network of local non-profits and social ventures to examine different models of social enterprise and work to develop in-depth proposals for new or existing ventures that will benefit these organizations and our local community.

Good luck finishing up your systems research for Tuesday.  The goal of this assignment is to gain a broader perspective of the social issues and complexities of Providence and our surrounding communities.  Please use your judgement and pursue your topic with curiosity being sure to put the data you find in context so that we can understand the information clearly.  Also, take a step forward with your graphic representation.  Think about page layout, hierarchy of information, and consistency in your iconography/graphic line work.  Let me know if you have any questions.
